Steinbrenner says Yankees not for sale (The SportsXchange)

The New York Yankees aren't for sale.

Hamels Saves Phillies from Nationals Again: A Fan's Outlook (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

The Philadelphia Phillies have been on the brink of two embarrassing sweeps at the hands of the Washington Nationals. Phillies fans like myself are already starting to worry about the Nationals and their bright future, especially with their four wins against Philadelphia already. But the only reason that Washington isn't 6-0 against the five-time NL East champs this season is because of Cole Hamels, who salvaged another win on May 23.

Steinbrenners selling the Yankees? Family denies New York Daily News report (Big League Stew)

The Steinbrenner family says it is not interested in selling the New York Yankees and dividing up the huge pinstriped pie that patriarch George left behind with his death in July 2010. But a rather thin article in Thursday's editions of the New York Daily News claims otherwise, speculating that the family must have dollar signs in its eyes after Frank McCourt brought home a huge windfall with the $2 billion+ sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers to Magic Johnson and Co. earlier this year. From the New York Daily News :

Diamondbacks hammer Lilly, snap Dodgers streak (Reuters)

(Reuters) - The Arizona Diamondbacks hammered Los Angeles starter Ted Lilly for eight runs in an 11-4 rout to spoil his unbeaten start to the season and snap the Dodgers' six-game winning streak. The 36-year-old Lilly, who entered the night 5-0 for the best start of his career, lasted just 3 1/3 innings as Arizona batters feasted on his pitches in front of their home crowd to avoid being swept in the finale of the three-game series. The Diamondbacks (20-25) jumped out with five runs in the first three innings, then scored three more in the fourth where Lilly departed trailing 8-1. ...

PHOENIX (AP) One night after letting a five-run lead slip away, Joe Saunders and the Arizona Diamondbacks weren't going to fall victim to another comeback.

American League notebook -- Wednesday, May 23, 2012 (The SportsXchange)

Baltimore: RHP Jason Hammel is still penciled in to make his start Friday against the Royals despite problems with his balky right knee. Hammel missed a turn in the rotation earlier this month due to the knee, and he had fluid drained earlier this week. ... CF Adam Jones went 2-for-3 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to 15 games, a career long. He is 22-for-62 (.355) with six homers and 12 RBI during the streak.

National League notebook -- Wednesday, May 23, 2012 (The SportsXchange)

Arizona: CF Chris Young was given a start off after starting the previous five games since being activated from the disabled list Friday. "He probably came back a little too early," manager Kirk Gibson said. With an off day today, Young will get two days off. ... C Miguel Montero (groin) rode a bike, played catch and took some swings before the game. "Hitting is a little challenging because you have to stretch out your back leg," Montero said. The D-back are hoping Montero can return Friday.

Red Sox 6, Orioles 5 (The SportsXchange)

BALTIMORE -- Daniel Nava, Kelly Shoppach and Scott Podsednik hit late homers that helped the Boston Red Sox defeat the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5, Wednesday afternoon in the finale of their three-game series at Camden Yards.

The Juice: Bryce Harper’s triple against Halladay keys Nats win, Dodgers roar back (Big League Stew)

The Juice is back for its fifth season of fun! Stop by each weekday for an ample serving of news from the action, plus great photos, stats and video highlights. Three years in the making: Bryce Harper hit his third triple of the season already, and he drove in two runs against Roy Halladay to lead the Washington Nationals to a 5-2 victory at Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old said in Mark Zuckerman's Nats Insider — in a post titled "Broad Street Beatdown" — that he's actually been scouting Halladay for three years and he couldn't wait to exploit a perceived weakness. Harper's two-run triple put the Nats ahead in the third inning and keyed their sixth straight victory at Citizens Bank Park. "I've been watching him for about three years," Harper said. "He throws a first-pitch curveball to so many people, and they just let it get over the plate. So I was just really trying to get something up in that situation and get something going. We had two guys on, and you had to get them in." Halladay, who came in with a dominating record against Washington, reflected on what's going wrong in Philly , which has lost four straight and is 21-23 overall. Dodger time: The injury riddled Los Angeles Dodgers improved to 30-13 by picking up an unlikely 8-7 victory at Arizona. Ivan DeJesus muscled-up for a two-out, two-run, go-ahead double in the ninth against closer J.J. Putz, and shortstop Dee Gordon hung in there on defense to help turn an acrobatic game-ending double play with runners at the corners in the bottom of the ninth. Arizona squandered a five-run lead in the seventh, and is 11 1/2 games out of first place. The Dodgers are 7-2 without Matt Kemp in the lineup. Waino bueno once again: Adam Wainwright tossed his first shutout since August 2010, a 4-0 victory against San Diego , which gave the St. Louis Cardinals' top starter a big sense of relief. Wainwright said he told teammate Jake Westbrook this might be the best feeling he's ever had pitching — which is saying something given Wainwright's accomplishments. Waino missed the 2011 season because of Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery:
